Happy Canada 150th!

June 26, 2017

A reminder that it’s a short week for us at 88 Stitches. The shop is open Tuesday to Friday this week, and closed Saturday July 1 for the Canada Day long weekend.

Time to stock up! We’ve recently received bright, new summery colours in Opal sock yarn and last week we enjoyed a large restock of lovely 80/20 sock yarn from the Canadian hand-dyed company Lichen and Lace. Sock knitting or crochet projects are great for long road trips and while waiting for events to begin, like the fireworks this holiday weekend.

You can also have some fun celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation by joining our Ravelry group’s year-long Canada knit-along that shines a spotlight on our wonderful Canadian designers. From January 1 – December 1 we’re knitting and crocheting as many sweaters and accessories as we can by Canadian designers.

There’s really no official rules, other than to participate you must be a member of our 88 Stitches Ravelry group, near or far, and this KAL is specifically for patterns designed by Canadians. Use the hashtag #88stitchesCanadaKAL on social media sites Instagram, Twitter, and on your Ravelry project pages, so that participants can see your gorgeous creations.

Wherever you find yourself this long-awaited first long weekend of summer, we wish for you clear skies, restful moments, and good times spent with family and friends.

Happy Canada Day from all of us at 88 Stitches
