December 31, 2017
On this last day of 2017, we reflect on all the fun days we’ve had at 88 Stitches. It was an especially exciting year for us as we celebrated our 10th Anniversary! We threw a party, which we hosted both inside and outside on our patio, and Melissa of Sweet Fiber Yarns created us a gorgeous special edition colour way called Birthday Cake.
Starting in January, we hosted a year-long Canada knit-along in our Ravelry group forum, celebrating our many wonderful Canadian designers during the year of Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. You should visit our Ravelry group to see the over 130 Canadian designers listed, and that list of amazing talent is still growing!
We hosted more local knitwear designer trunks show than ever! It’s always been important to us to support those who put their hearts and souls into this craft we all love so much. Without our designers, there would be little to inspire us to make our next cozy sweater or hat or shawl. Walt Disney said it best “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality“.
One of the most fun experiences of the year was an idea that was first inspired from our Canada knit-along. We fell in love with a new pattern by Canadian designer Sarah Schira of Imagined Landscapes called Never Not Gnoming, and thought it would be nice to create a winter village display of cute wee gnomes for over the holidays.
Soon enough we realized that would be a monumental task to get done whilst working in our busy shop. So we mentioned our idea in our Ravelry group, and before we knew it we had beautifully hand-knitted gnomes arriving from near and far, hand-delivered, each with their own distinct personalities and funny creative touches. It was truly amazing! Our Winter Village of Gnomes have gone on to brighten many December days, while prompting smiles and giggles from everyone who’s visited us. In fact, Never Not Gnoming was our best-selling pattern of the year!
We’re looking forward to see what 2018 brings! Certainly more creative ideas, new yarn, exciting possibilities, and more fun social get-togethers with you, our friends. As you know, we take a break from classes and social events during the month of January. Often the weather can be poor and it’s the month when the cold/flu season seems to hit the hardest.
It’s the time to rejuvenate and set new goals! We’ll begin our next round of classes and social evenings in February, so be sure to watch your inbox later in January for an email notification when our schedule is ready for registration. If you haven’t already, you may subscribe right here.
In the meantime, we have started another year-long knit-along in our Ravelry group forum. Starting tomorrow, January 1, 2018 to December 1, 2018, join us as we attempt to knit and crochet as many socks as we can for Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall of 2018. You’ll find more information about our new Socks For Every Season KAL in our 88 Stitches Ravelry group.
We thank you for your continued friendship and support this past year! We wish you much happiness, good health and no dropped stitches in 2018.
Happy stitching from all of us at 88 Stitches
