Meet The Teachers

Alexa Ludeman is one half of the popular design team known as Tin Can Knits. Besides knit design, Alexa is a teacher, photographer, indie dyer, and mother to three beautiful children.

Marilyn O’Malley’s mission is to make thinking knitters: knitters who can “read” their knitting, understand it and knitters who are not afraid to question and deviate from a pattern.

Melissa Thomson is the dyer and designer behind Sweet Fiber Yarns where she combines her passion for both colour and design. She teaches her own self-published designs.

Carlys Varkony loves helping new knitters and crocheters become confident and excited about their craft. She believes that knitting and crochet are skills that never stop developing and changing, and that there is always something new to learn.

4 classes, maximum 4 students

Monday October 30, November 6, 13 & 20  – 7:00-9:00pm

As a new knitter, you’ve probably made several scarves or dishcloths. Now it’s time to step your knitting up to the next level!  Learn things like reading patterns and demystifying those knitting abbreviations and terminology. We will be using the free Tin Can Knits “The Simple Collection” patterns which are specifically geared towards helping new knitters gain confidence and build skills. You will be able to choose from 9 patterns which include accessories as well as two simple sweaters sized from baby to adult. Students will learn from their own project as well as from classmates’ projects. There may even be time for you to begin a second project before the class ends (pattern choice dependent and time permitting). Skill Level: Beginner (must know how to do both the knit stitch and the purl stitch)
